Thyroid Testing

The nervous system and the endocrine system are so intricately connected - so much so that they often get labelled together under the umbrella of ‘neuroendocrine system’ - because in terms of how the body functions, it really is impossible to separate what goes on in our nervous system from what goes on in our hormonal system.

The thyroid gland is a key part of the hormonal (‘endocrine’) system. This means that if the nervous system is chronically out of balance then so is the hormonal system.
This is why chronic stress and trauma lead to adrenal and thyroid dysfunction.

Thyroid imbalances are often missed and attributed solely to mental health problems because as you can see from the list below, the symptoms of thyroid imbalances are strikingly similar to mental health issues.

This is why many people who have thyroid imbalances end up on antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication without getting the help they really need to address these imbalances. Furthermore, many of these medications can further disrupt and suppress the function of the thyroid hormone itself.

Signs of thyroid imbalance:
  • Feeling tired, 'heavy', sluggish, want to sleep a lot
  • Depression, low mood, flatness
  • Feel anxious and worry a lot
  • Lack focus and mental clarity, 'brain fog'
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Muscle aches, tension/carpal tunnel
  • Always feel cold, low body temperature

(If you suffer from more than 3 of these on the list I strongly recommend getting an *advanced* (not GP) test for your thyroid (like this one). Standard GP tests do not look at the whole picture of the thyroid and can give inaccurate and misleading results).

As a society we are getting more and more aware of the mind body connection and yet this kind of education is seriously missed when it comes to mental health.

Unresolved trauma and chronic stress are *BIG* root causes of thyroid imbalances...which is a vicious cycle:

Chronic stress causes more and more nervous system dysregulation, which then disrupts our hormonal system, which then further causes widespread imbalance in the whole body and feeds back into more dysregulation in the nervous system.

Not to mention the fact that chronic stress also depletes many of the systems and co-factors that are needed to make and convert thyroid hormones properly so the body can use them.

And did you know that thyroid hormone is the only hormone in the body that every tissue and cell have a receptor for? That’s how vital it is!! And that’s why imbalances can cause such vast and varied effects - body, emotions, mind...the impact is huge.

Whilst there is a lot we can tell about the activity of the thyroid gland from the DUTCH test, if you want to look in depth just at the thyroid and have the most clarity and accuracy about what’s going on in your thyroid and whether you have thyroid imbalances, then I strongly recommend that you also do this advanced thyroid profile as part of your healing journey in the Vibrant Woman Method programme.

Advanced Thyroid Test details:

This test includes the test kit itself and my professional analysis of your personal results. I then put together a full written report with information and guidance for you on addressing and optimising your thyroid function.

Please note this test if only available in the UK and Republic of Ireland. If you are located outside of these areas and wish to add this test on please email me here to arrange.

This advanced and comprehensive Thyroid test is a home test that uses a finger prick to collect the blood sample and free Return Postage. If you do not want to do a finger prick test then please email me here to arrange to have a different test sent out that uses a blood draw - for this you will need to arrange to have your blood taken privately (there are many clinics that do this which I can suggest based on your location and the cost is £30-40). Please email me if you would like to do the test but do NOT want to do a finger prick.
